Late last year, a new web site burst in on the hnefatafl scene. Entitled "The Viking Game" (apparently unrelated to the manufactured set of the same name), the new site can be visited at http://kingstafl.com/.

The main part of the site offers the player four variants: Fetlar Hnefatafl, Brandubh, Longship Tafl and a new variant called Thurso Hnefatafl. These games can be played against the computer or against human opponents.

Also on offer is a forum, which is reasonably active despite the newness of the site. Logging in on a weekend it appears there will always be plenty to read.

The design of the site is clean and attractive. My only difficulty with it has been the use of an external tool to create one's profile image, requiring a separate registration and the use of the off-site tool to set the profile image, but that is not a major difficulty and it doesn't affect enjoyment of the site.

I'd recommend anyone looking to play hnefatafl on-line should check out the site and join in the fun.
